Top 10 Fitness Truths for People Over 50

I am not sure if I’d consider this a list of fitness truths, fitness principles, or even fitness motivations. Whatever you call it, they are simple and to the point.

Once you accept them as fact, what it takes to be fit over 50 will become crystal clear.

I’ve found that if I stick to these truths, everything else in terms of my fitness just falls into place.

Sticking to any program will be hard at times. Use this list of hard fitness truths as a reminder of what it takes. It has helped keep me focused and on track. Hopefully, it will do the same for you.

1. Diets, Exercise Programs, and Supplements are All Peripheral

Most of them will work, but ALL of them will fail without a disciplined effort.

Don’t get hung up on choosing the perfect fitness plan, diet, etc … there isn’t one.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

The best fitness plan is the one you actually do.

2. There is No Magic Pill

Don’t try to find one. It doesn’t exist, and trying to find one is a waste of time and energy.

It will always come down to hard work and commitment. There are no shortcuts.

3. You are Never Too Old to Be Super Fit

It’s never too late to be your very best. I’m living proof. I put off getting fit until my late forties. I finally got serious, when I honestly asked myself, “if not now, when?”

You can be in the best shape of your life at any age.

4. There is One Inescapable Truth When it Comes to Your Health and Fitness

You will get back exactly what you put into it. No more, no less.

Action equals results.

5. When it Comes to Your Potential, What You are Actually Capable of is Beyond Your Imagination

The one thing all of us have in common when it comes to fitness is this; None of us are even close to achieving our maximum potential.

Regardless of how fit you currently are or aren’t, all of us can achieve so much more. The possibilities are limitless.

6. The Simplest Way to Dramatically Increase Your Quality of Life is to Get Fit

Feeling better, having more energy, and looking your best are all motivating reasons to get fit.

Add to the list, an increased level of confidence, a reduction in stress and anxiety, and your overall enjoyment of life will skyrocket. Guaranteed.

Being healthy and fit is the root of happiness. It’s that simple.

7. Your Brain is the Key to Staying Motivated

Do whatever it takes to make your workouts fun. Make them social; imagine you’re in a game or performance, be playful.

I found what works for me. Figure out what works for you.

8. Keep Moving and Pushing Your Limits

There is nothing more fulfilling than hard work. That sense of accomplishment you get when you strive towards a goal and finally achieve it is beyond words.

There’s also a tremendous feeling of satisfaction, knowing you are progressing towards a better version of you.

9. Hold Yourself to a Higher Standard

You are special. Treat yourself like it and act like it. Fuck the status quo and AgeHIGH.

10. You Were Born Into this World with More Than You Will Ever Need to Live an Astounding and Fulfilling Life

On the surface, this last one may appear to not relate to fitness, but it does, since it all comes down to your attitude and state of mind.

When I’m happy, my training is more consistent, and the more I train, the happier I am. This is what I call the feedback loop of positivity, and this should be your goal.

Since happiness is easy, you should start there.

The only thing preventing you from being happy is you. Whatever excuse, or whatever it is you are waiting for won’t change a thing.

You already have everything you need. You’re alive, you’re a conscious being, and it doesn’t get any better than that.

Have the time of your life every day of your life. Revel in it, and be happy now!
